Brazilian IGF
The 9th Brazilian IGF will start tomorrow, and this is the second time it is hosted in the north region of Brazil. The event will be held in the city of Manaus, in the State of Amazonas.
As you may know, the Brazilian IGF follows a model that is similar to the global IGF, with the program built by the community, through a public call for workshop proposals. This year we received 55 proposals and selected 27 of them to take part in the program. The workshops were selected by an external multistakeholder committee, comprised of 44 members. The forum will take place between 1st and 4th of October, starting with a “Day Zero” program that gathers a series of self-managed activities that were proposed by the community, and which we allocated in a “first come, first serve” basis. Day zero will also count with a whole day special academic/research program, organized by an independent Internet Governance Research Network in Brazil.

A very broad range of Internet governance issues will be covered by the workshops and other activities. We will also hold three Main Sessions, which will discuss “platforms and privacy”, “digital cooperation” and “infrastructure and digital inclusion”.

CGI.br and NIC.br promote and organize the event, besides providing financial support to participants of all the selected workshops. There is a multistakeholder organizing committee establishing guidelines and overseeing all the activities involved in this work. This committee is comprised of government appointed members and other elected CGI.br Board members from civil society, private sector and technical community.
